What Should I Backup?

Chances are you have a lot of important stuff on your computer like financial documents, email, photos, music and more. Unfortunately, computers are vulnerable to hard drive crashes, virus attacks, theft and natural disasters, which can erase everything in an instant.

Current statistics show that one in every ten hard drives fail each year. The cost of recovering a failed hard drive can exceed $2,500, and success is never guaranteed. Some things to backup are:

  • Email in Outlook / Outlook Express
  • Contacts / Address Book
  • Favorites
  • Taxes
  • Documents, Spreadsheets, Presentations
  • Music
  • Pictures
  • Finances in Quicken / QuickBooks
  • Settings
  • Programs
  • Real Estate Contracts
  • Genealogy Files
  • Medical records

It is easy to back these things up using a free or low cost program called Mozy which we talk about on our website here.
