What does "Rebuilding My Computer" Mean?

There are many reasons to rebuild a computer including viruses, spyware, a corrupted operating system, programs not operating properly or needing a new hard drive.

The hard drive IN the computer lasts from 5 to 7 years.  If you have a lot of "Program Not Responding" errors, we recommend getting a new hard drive as well for an additional $75.  If the computer is more than 5 years old we recommend getting a new PC rather than rebuilding.

This is what happens when we rebuild a PC:

Backup all the information you have ever put onto the computer including files, folders, emails, address books, finances, music, pictures, favorites, and more.  You cannot backup a program.  You need to install it from the original CDs.  This process could take from 10 minutes to 2 hours depending on the data you have.

Rebuild

  • Physically Install New Hard Drive (optional)
  • Reformat Hard Drive
  • Install Operating System (45 min)
  • Install All Drivers (video, modem, sound, networking) (30 min)
  • Install All Current Microsoft Critical Updates including Service Packs (1-3 hours)
  • Install All Driver Updates from Microsoft (which could prevent future problems)

  • Disable Installing Internet Explorer 8
  • Install Adobe Flashplayer for Internet Explorer

  • Install Adobe Flashplayer for Firefox

  • Load Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack (to read 2007 files if you don’t have 2007)
  • Test system for 2 hours

Restore

Install all the programs you had before with the CDs you provide.  (ie. you need MS Office, Quickbooks, and whatever else you had before)

Put back all your information, in the right place, with the right settings.

This process could take from 10 minutes to 4 hours.
